Reversing Loop Wiring Diagram?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 7:15 PM
What is a good book that shows different wiring diagrams for all different types of track layouts?

Looking at how to wire a reversing loop.

Kalmbach used to have a book called "How To Wire Your Model Railroad" which had excellent diagrams for all kinds of cab control systems. I think it's probably still published, even in the age of DCC. It shows toggle switches used for easy wiring of reverse loops.

Check out the NMRA Introduction to Model Railroading pages at http://www.nmra.org/beginner/ I believe that is covered in their wiring series.

Assuming we are talking DC cab control and not DCC ... the old Kalmbach wiring book by Linn Westcott on How to Wire your Model Railroad that geo refers to above had pretty good drawings and if you find one cheap at a swap meet I think you'll be happy with it, but the new(er) Kalmbach book by Andy Sperandeo on wiring is I think a bit more clear in its drawings and text, at least to me it is. There is also a good and quite clear book by Atlas if you use Atlas components, but I would go with Andy S.

Thanks, Dave. I suspected I was way out of date with my book reference. Brian, I've done the homework I should have done on this earlier, and I see the new book is called "Basic Wiring for Model Railroaders" and it's by Rick Selby. The ad in Feb 05 MR says it's $18.95. Anyway, it seems Kalmbach always has a great library of outstanding books. You should have a good wiring experience if you get this one. geo
