Technically they were probably painted "aluminum".  Minor detail I know.  The MP standard was Rust-O-Leum Aluminum.

Rio Grande Industries bought Southern Pacific in 1989 and later formed South Pacific Industries and then they were taken over by union Pacific in 1996.

Thanks for the reply about Signal mast colour.

Yes I know it was a while ago, but I just found the "my forums" section on the top of the first page and noted that I had not replied with a Thanks.

Yours truly,   Happy Modelling  &  Merry Christmas

Most of the modern targets in the western parts of America are usually painted silver with flat black lens faces...very seldom are the masts painted white or black...i've traveled extensively thru the states where the old DRG&W rails ran and always came across silver masts and black lens targets...the old railroads are being swallowed up ..the DRG&W was bought out by the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 80's and the Southern Pacific was bought out by the Union Pacific in 96'...there are basically two railroads left in the western United States...the Union Pacific and the BNSF....Chuck

Living 'Down Under' and not yet travelled to the States I rely on books, magazines and lately, video's for information. Due to variations in printing etc. the color of signal masts could be white, silver or what-ever. What brand and color appears to be suitable ?
