and your other options for roadbed are plentiful. not just ... cork, homosote or cork or homosote or hey.... foam!!! its the new rage!
for me it started out as the minimal funds/scratchbuilders eye combination...

vowla- 18"x18" industrial carpet tiles. Scored a skid full of the suckers at an auction for cheap...and I thought maybe they'd work... but...
they are the best!
fine carpet side down smeared with adhesive caulking... not a fiber in sight!
-easy to cut w/razor knife...any curve or shape you desire..
-the 3 plys of rubber base hold nails, tacks & staples like no other- & the stuff probably has a half life of 10,000 years....
anyway- I like foam better than cork... and homosotes ok too...
Dan

-and talk about a nice quiet ride...

I like that you can attatch about anything to foam. I went with one inch on the flat parts and two inch on the hills. (I'm only a little farther than you.)
