Need paint color suggestion for concrete on a Walthers structure
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, February 21, 2005 4:09 PM
I'm working on the Walthers Cornerstone HO kit 'American Hardware Supply', and I need to know, if someone is familiar with this kit, the color of the concrete strips that border the brick on the structure's walls. These strips are not gray, but instead a tannish-color, so would it be better to use Pollyscale Earth or Pollyscale Mud? Those two colors were mentioned in an internet article I read on how someone built the Walthers REA Freighthouse for painting the dock, but it wasn't specific about which color was used for it, as the concrete dock looks like it's the same tannish color of the concrete strips on the American Hardware Supply building. I don't want to paint these concrete strips the Pollyscale gray that I have, as I'd like to try to match what it shows on the box, a brownish or tannish concrete color.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

NS82,

Actually, Floquil makes a concrete or cement toned paint - which goes by one of those two names. (Sorry, I don't have the paint bottle in front of me to check.)

Floquil has two colors for cement. "Concrete" and "Aged Concrete". The first is a light grey-green, the second has a little brown or umber in it. For older buildings I would use the Aged Concrete.

Remember its your railroad

Thanks, Allan. I didn't realize there was an "aged" concrete. Hmmmmm...

Polly Scale also has the same two colors in their line (not surprising, since they're the acrylic versions of Floqui). Their 'Aged Concrete' has a nice brownish cast to it that looks good for old concrete.
