Thanks for your reply!   I live in NYC and am not sure what clubs there are.  I will do some digging!

Just a thought - Perhaps donating your father's model railroad equipment to a club might be worth looking into.

Some model railroad clubs sponsor model railroad flea markets. One in my area, the Twin City Model Railroad Museum, sponsors two large shows a year at the Minnesota state fairgrounds. It also has an on-site gift shop and does smaller in-house sales once or twice a year where they sell off things that have been donated to them but that they cannot use (or are duplicates of things they already have).

If you donate it all, it saves you the time/effort of giving the collection away one piece at a time. Anything the club couldn't use could be sold by them to model railroaders who could use it, and the money would go to help the club.

Plus, if you donate to a non-profit club or organization, you could use a reasonable estimate of the value of the equipment as a tax deduction.

A reminder to all that while giving things away is allowed on this Forum, selling them is not.

Giving away model train and layout parts from my Dad

Hi.  My dad recently died and was an avid model railroader.  He left a bunch of parts and paints, and I would like to give them to anyone who wants them, rather than just bringing them to Goodwill or something.

There is one deep box full of track and electronics and little houses, three flat boxes with tracks, undercarriages, and other parts, and a box of model railroad paint.

Here is a picture of everything

Happy to mail it anywhere!
