Does this look too blue?
Looks more like a swimming pool to me.

Dr.Wayne: The fact that someone of your caliber agreed with me, made my day.
I've done three water scenes on my layout, and have at least a couple more to do. None of them used the faux water stuff, but I do recall seeing some very well-done water scenes by other modellers, where the colours look very realistic, and the "water" seemed to have depth.
I did make a small stream based on a real one, but it's not one that's all that noticeable, as it's quite narrow and meandering, and mostly overgrown with small trees and brush. I didn't bother to add any water details (ripples and/or rapids) as it's mostly unseen, and based on the real Negro Creek, which is roughly 200kms north of here. It was populated by 50-or-so families fleeing via the Underground Railroad, and is still in existance under that name.
Very little of my version of Negro Creek is visible, but it's my nod to my Black friends, many of whom are no longer with us.
...I still have at least this one to be done, and fortunately, the bridges are removeable...
I'm liking the murky water far more than the pool-like shade from the OP.

You've probably seen my other water scenes, but I'll add a few for our recently arrived forum members...
This is the plywood riverbed....
...and the finished river done with Durabond 90 patching plaster, painted with ordinary latex housepaint, then made to look wetter by a couple applications of Varathane Clear Gloss finish...
...this one is a different river, but uses the same colours as the previous one...
...the "white" water beyond the bridge is from a waterfall that's around the curve and upstream (but not modelled at all, as it's totally hidden by trees).
Here's a couple of overhead views (courtesy of Secord Air Services)...
...this view is of a kit that I built and painted for a longtime friend...
...and I was surprised that it looked fairly decent on my Durabond 90 "water".
I have at least one more "river" to complete, but may add a couple of small streams or drainage ditches alongside the tracks on my layout's partial upper level.
Those flip-flops fit right into your Caribbean flavored scene. Like the sponge-stippling technique. Looking forward to part two.
Thanks and regards, Peter
HO-VeloLooking forward to part two.
Me too. That was an improvement, but I would have been happy with the original scene!
I need a lot of water on the next layout, and this technique looks do-able.
Thanks.
