Very interesting and effective use of mirrors and a Magnorail system

Hi folks,

These videos show an option to the Faller Car System. The system is called Magnorail. In this case, the modeler has used it to create a very interesting optical illusion.

Here is how the illusion was created:

I know that this sort of animation and illusion is not to everyone's taste. I'm not suggesting that everyone should have one of these on their layouts, but you can't deny that the illusion is very well done! It had me scratching my head when I saw the first video. Visitors to the layout would obviously be highly entertained.

Cheers!!

Love it. I think that's a really clever use of mirrors. It's a nice scene otherwise, as well-- the trees, the greenhouse, the fishers at the pond, the shops. It gives me enough interest that my eyes naturally look past the mirror and embrace the illusion, even after seeing how it's done.

I don't have room for this kind of thing on my layout (nor the interest in trickery/magic for its own sake) but it does make me think about how I can use mirrors to enhance the depth of things. I have a few building flats with open warehouse doors... been considering mirrors as part of their future interiors for a while now, to make them look bigger inside than they are.

I'm running out of chairs to fall out of. That's amazing!

I found a video showing how the Magnorail system is installed and how it works. I am really intrigued by this system! It would work perfectly in the middle of my layout street scene.

My main problem with it is that I need 20' of track. That works out to six starter kits, or about $1200 Cdn. There are extension kits and motor kits available separately but ultimately it is more economical to buy multiple starter kits. There is also the question of whether or not the system will work reliably when the chain is 20'+ long.

I'm going to study my road plan to see if I can cut the roads into more manageable sections.

Cheers!!
