Shelf Layout Progress, Sept. 2021 and Sept. 2022.
Posted by cats think well of me on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 1:27 PM

Hello all,

I realize I hadn't posted updates on here for my shelf layout for sometime. It's in the final phases of being done so I'm slowly adding things, it mainly needs figures, some more scenery, and some other details, but it's coming along.

The background is by Larc Products, the firm' "Mack" backdrop, the lighting by MicroMark. The railroads are Boston & Maine and New York Central, the era is early '50s, but I may make changes to incorporate later eras as I enjoy that aesthetic quite a bit as well, but for now, here's my little slice of Upstate New York.

Here is what I had going a year ago and I had been ecstatic just to get this far.

Here's where I am at now. I chose smaller buildings over the large ones I originally planned to use as I think it makes the layout appear larger and the scene much less compressed.

Here are some shots of individual scenes.

The South River Model Works Wrisley Papers building, my first craftsman kit and I loved every minute of it. Probably the most "complete" area of the layout. The stone work holding up the trestle I built using Chooch Enterprise cut stone sheets and then painted and weathered. Scenery is mainly Woodland Scenics products. I originally thought adding the little Pigeons would be a lot of time for little effect but I had been wrong! I like the Pigeons a lot and glad I added them.

Laserkit All American Service station, Walthers and CMW vehicles, More of the Chooch cut stone sheet, and to the side, South River Model Works Foster's Machine tools, plus wood fencing, either Lasekit or Bar Mills, not sure which. Roads are styrene sheets painted Model Master Concrete. Signs are by JL Innovative. Woodland Scenics N-scale cut stone tunnel portal for the road tunnel.

Foster's Reconditioned Machine Tools. I added the Preiser figure at work. It's part of the South River Model Works Cambridge Crossing kit.

I added scenery to this area between the mainline and the spur track to Wrisley Papers. Just kind threw things in place and thought hey that looks alright and definitely better than the bare dirt like the area behind the track. I'll add scenery there in time.

A JL Innovative Avon St. crossing tower painted in two tone gray and the wood sides replaced with styrene pieces serves the only grade crossing on the layout. This had been a pretty fun kit to build! Crossing gates are by Walthers.

The team track scene. Tichy Jib crane, Walthers overhead crane, Chooch platforms and ramps I did some additions too. Laserkit yard office kit. CMW 1951 Ford REA truck. Alloy Forms forklift.

Station is by Lasekit and I'm building a platform with a concrete top and stone sides. General Store is by Blair Line. Truck is a Classic Metal Works 1954 Ford with GCLaser tool boxes. I didn't bother to match the paint but I like the look. The baggage cart, not truly needed at such a small station I know, is by Jordon that I'd picked up years ago. Coal truck is by Walthers and I'd added decals from their Golden Flame Fuel Co. kit.

Hope you all enjoy! I'll post more pics as I get more of it done.

Sincerely,

Alvie

Very nicely done, detailed scenes, good job on the SRMW kit - I've done a few FSM kits, haven't got my hands on a South River kit yet.  Love the fall scenery!
