Turntable Recommendation
Posted by B Rutherford on Sunday, May 29, 2022 6:04 AM

Good morning all!

I am going to need a 90' motorized turntable for my layout.  I will be looking to control it remotely through the throttle / jmri.  My longest steam engine is 11" with tender, coupler to coupler.  I am modeling 1940's - 1950' New England railroading.

Right now I am looking at the Walthers unit with advanced controller but I am wondering if there is another brand I should be looking at before placing an order?

Recommendations?

Thanks!

I have the 90' Walthers and it has worked well. I control it with my NCE controller.

It weathered up nicely.

I have the first run Walthers 90' RTR turntable - bought it about 20 years ago. It's just the basic controller, meaning you can program the stops but not as DCC addresses or anything fancy like that. But the turnatable has never given me any trouble at all - it has been very reliable. I would recommend the Walthers turntable without reservation (though I don't know anything about the advanced controller on the more recent products).

Same here, the 'built-up and indexed' 90' TT from 2006.  I haven't used it in 10 years because I haven't had a layout on which to use it, but it never gave me a lick of trouble in the six years it was in place.

Hint:  DO, absolutely, keep it clean. Vacuum it regularly, cover it if you don't mind doing that, but follow the instructions on cleanliness.  Don't ask.....

The early DCC  ones had issues with the decoder but I hear nothing bad about the newer ones. Got a 90' RTR myself but no decoder.

Thanks all! I have reached out to Spring Creek for pricing on the turntable and controller
