I need parts. Specifically the trucks and drive line of N scale shay. Nothing on the bay of E gad that is expensive. project, I have a HOe etched brass shell freelanced center cab (very well done kits for the size). Perfect for what would have been done at mines and logging would be to stick diesel parts mated to the frame and drive line of old geared locos that were still serviceable. Made a much cheaper loco too. That is what I am doing here and will just call it "thing". Or frankenengine. Standard gauge version is something I will do later. It N scale parts to make thing are eluding me. Anybody know of a source?

Just to give the obvious answer, often the best place to start is the manufacturer. I've bought parts direct from several companies (Atlas, Athearn, Bachmann, BLI, Mantua when they were around) over the years.
The N scale Shay is a work of art... and the price reflects that. Do you absolutely need the gears? If not, you could buy an N scale diesel frame sold by Tomytec. If you are thinking HOn30, there is also Toma:

You can also look for Flying Zoo engines and parts on Ebay (in HOn30).

I believe Flying Zoo were brass imports, also labelled as Joe Works.
