Static Grass Applicator Question
Posted by Ablebakercharlie on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 12:08 PM

Instead of buying a static grass applicator I am planning on giving it a go and making one following a mix of the tutorials on youtube by Luke Towan and Larry Puckett.

Here is the question - I noticed on the Woodland Scenics version there are different screen sizes that come with the applicator.  If I fabricate one, can one size screen do the trick for different length grasses -  2mm - 6mm?

Thoughts on screen sizes making a difference?

Thanks!

I asked my wife to get me a strainer, she bought three at the dollar store and I used the smallest of the three  .  .  .  .  she kept the other two.

This is my version of the Luke Towan applicator.

Works great.

Thanks Mel!!

Just to make sure I'm clear with your set up - -   with the smallest of the three sized strainers that you picked for your applicator, you are able to sucessfully use it for the different length static grasses from 2mm to 6mm.

Thanks!

I have used 2mm, 4mm and 6mm all work OK.  6mm is the longest grass I have applied.

Luke's instructions are great, my applicator works better than great!

You dont even need a strainer forthe grass, any shaker will do. It is the static work that makes the diference. I learned this when I was running out of grass and had to valcumm up some excess so I could finish, I just deposited it with my fingers and then hit it with my flyswatter type static wand. Works up to 6mm, beyond that I can't say.
