Mine came from a soon to be throwen out pillow; didn't cost a dime
I always have paint on hand, but a can of cheap stuff would paint a lot of poly
no shipping cost
wdcrvrIs there a good way to make white polyester filler into black?
The easy way is to just buy it.
Michael's On-Line has an 8 ounce bad for $6.50 available. For comparisson, the Woodland Scenics bad contains half an ounce.

Living the dream.
I also, had zero luck with dye, came out purple.
I spread out, fluff up a bunch, use a rattle can. When dry store in a bag . That way I aways have some on hand when needed.
Now I need to look up that girlfriend trick.
Well OK ! I think I could've painted 4 trees, in the time it took to scroll through the process.
I scrolled to the bottom and clicked on the "How to Turn On Your Girlfriend" instead.
Thanks Rich.

I tried the dye thing too, Rob. It doesn't work. The polyester doesn't absorb anything.
What I did, was make the trees, and before I added the foliage, I spray painted the fiber fill with light dusting coates of flat camo paint. Branches aren't brown or black, but more of a dark gray. Paint it what suites you.
After paint is dry, which doesn't take long at all, then I did the spray adhesive and foliage.
I stuck the trees into a piece of styrofoam, so I could do a few at a time.
The polyfiber material unfortunately doesn't take dye very well. If you want black specifically, MicroMark sells it. https://www.micromark.com/Black-Poly-Fiber-12-oz_2
