I wanted to order some PECO code 100 insulfrog turnouts during the Klein BF sale but waited too long. By the time I pulled the trigger half of what I wanted was sold out. I then went to another site and ordered the remainder of what I needed only to have some of them listed as backordered. Walthers is also showing these as out of stock with no info regarding availability.
It was my understanding that they would still be producing these for a while before the tooling wore out and they switched to the unifrog. Does anyone know what is going on? Do I just need to be patient?

What are you missing ?

SL-91 & SL-92.
It the track is made in the UK, or shipped there from China first, then you can blame their lockdown.

Both of these are available on eBay in limited quantities. If you really need them, I would get them now.

Like I said I have them on order. I am willing to wait some but not forever, especially if they are going to be discontinued and replaced by unifrog.
Not to be alarmist... but if they are on order from the UK itself, things might be getting bad there soon, objectively to say nothing of overreaction in the postal and shipping areas.
I dearly hope I'm wrong. But I'd take that advice to look at eBay or other sources that have them 'cost-effectively' while you can...
Not sure who you are buying it from, but I would get them from yankeedabbler.com and it shows they are in stock.

I have no affiliation with them.

nealknows I would get them from yankeedabbler.com
That should work, and it is at better prices than I saw on eBay.
I have had no bad experiences from Yankee Dabbler through the mail.
LastspikemikeThe border between France and the UK is currently closed
The Channel Tunnel (Chunnel)? It is still open, but might close tonight.
Do France and the UK share a border I am unaware of?
According to my Atlas, France only borders Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Belgium, Italy, Andora, and Monaco.
Keep in mind, if you need the turnouts soon, MB Klein is presently taking about 10 days from order to out-the-door, and then the USPS is taking 2 or 3 times longer to ship items.
The last Peco code 100 I needed I ordered off of Ebay; it was shipped on the 15th and arrived on the 19th so transit time not too bad at all.
I imagine with COVID, Peco may be shutting back down but you can probably find what you need if you hunt around.
Rio Grande. The Action Road - Focus 1977-1983
All good advice. While I can probably wait a month if things get ugly who knows how long it could take. I should probably buy now from someplace that has them in stock to be safe.
Yankee Dabbler appears to have some. All the track I have on hand right now, two cases of Peco 83 flex, some #8's and some #6's, all came from there, no issues. And all actually slightly less expensive than Modeltrainstuff. That was back at the beginning of the year, it may have taken them an extra day or two to get it out the door as they were only allowed to have so many employees in the shop at a time, but it was still pretty prompt.
They come to regional train shows (back when we had train shows)(first time I ever heard of them was a few years ago at Timonium), and they aren't all that far from me, one of these days I need to get to the store. Problem is, with traffic, though they are closer in miles than MB Klein, I can get down there in less time that it would take me to drive to the Dabbler store in Bellmawr NJ.

Well, I guess I need a better reference than my 2016 copy of National Geograhic's World Atlas.
Any book this big should be 100% accurate!

Ferries don't count as borders any more than airplanes do.
Getting back to the OP's original question, I would strongly advise buying any rail supplies now if you can get them. When my old club was starting construction of its newest layout in 2017 they made the decision to buy on an as needed basis. Then along came the Atlas track shortage. That set the club back nearly nine months IIRC. Very frustrating!!
It is highly unlikely that the supply is going to get better during the pandemic.
Cheers!!
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Okay guys, enough already on borders. Let's show the OP a little respect please.

I have not ordered from them before. Will they let you put items in your cart if the item is not in stock?
hbgatsf Will they let you put items in your cart if the item is not in stock?
I cannot say for certain.
After I fill my cart, I have called them to verify the items are on hand. They always have been.
Nice people.
Modeltrainstuff is the only one with an inventory system that good. Really think they even beat out Amazon.
Dabbler shows an "available" field on each item, which typically means they have it, but not how many. Could be 1, could be 10.
It's always been my impression that PECO items were produced in their factory in Devon near the southwest coast. With things in Britain (and here) going to Hell in a handbasket Covid wise, I would expect all sorts of delays in getting new stock produced and shipped. At least there is a proposed Brexit deal close at hand (perhaps). BTW, don't ever call it the "English Channel" in France". Indeed it is called "La Manche", which is French for "The Sleeve". As in a sleeve for sailing through the channel past Britain and France.
False alarm.
I didn't do anything about ordering from a different site. I did contact my vendor and although they couldn't give me an estimate on when they would arrive they did say they had new stock arriving sporadically.
Since I didn't need them for a while I decided to be patient. Glad I did as two days later the turnouts arrived and they have been shipped to me. Unfortunately they were sent via USPS so now I need to deal with their delays.

USPS has been getting better, at least down here, the last week.
Ebay packages are arriving in good time, and Netflix turn around for DVDs is down to four days.
Good luck!

We shall see. I have a package that was shipped Priority on 12/8 from Dallas. It got to the east coast on 12/18 and has been stuck in the Philadelphia area since then. The turnouts were sent to me from VT. Moving along so far but they haven't hit any of the big distribution centers yet. I can only hope.
Lastspikemike Peco makes their stuff in Beer, Devon, UK. Their factory had to change shift procedures in March to accommodate the various restrictions from the pandemic. This has reduced factory capacity. I read an article of some sort a few weeks ago in which Peco stated that cross Channel delays were affecting their production. Not sure what they get from across the Channel but a lot of stuff bound for the UK actually lands in Rotterdam. The cross Channel delivery chains issue came as a surprise to at least one Brexit oriented cabinet minister, just btw.

betamaxThere is a company in France which manufactures Nickel Silver rail, which in turn supplies a number of manufacturers making track and turnouts.
When I was working, I was surprised to find out how many of the high-quality fasteners we used in specialized locations were made in France. Also, a lot of the best pigments used in manufacturing art paint originate in France.

The good news is that the turnouts were delivered today. They were only 2 days late. The bad news is that my other package is still stuck in Philadelphia. That makes 2 weeks with no movement.
