Building the first layout
Posted by tungvt on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 2:02 AM

Hello friends

I just started playing this model for a few months. Now I am planning to build a simple layout of two 22" and one 18" rails. So please, what is the minimum width of the model and the minimum distance of rails?

Thanks

First as a first timer your post are Moderated for awhile so your responses are delayed.

Second the information in your request need defining, scale, layout size or type of model railroad you will be building.  The information in your request doesn’t mean anything but numbers.

Welcome to the forums.  Your first posts will take some time to appear, so don't give up.

As Mel said, we need some more information before we can give you some help.  This forum is very helpful for anyone with questions.

It sounds to me like you intend double tracked main line with nested curves.  For the radius you mention, I would have separation, center-to-center, of not less than three full inches, (7.7 cm).

BUT...you might need more.  The best way to determine what your minimum separation should be is to temporarily lay the tracks and see if your intended (and future long...) rolling stock will pass each other safely.

Hello All,

Welcome

What size area and shape are you working with and/or planning?

If you can tell us that we can help with dimensions and clearance distances.

Hope this helps.

"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"
