Trainzman2435 Hello everyone, does anyone know of a source for buying 3mm or 1/8" thick cork sheets besides Midwest? I am looking for larger sheets to cover a larger area and i dont want to have to use the strips or the 3" Midwest sheets. Maybe someone knows of something different that would work besides cork? I am wanting to cover a engine facility so the bigger the sheets the better. I am looking at covering around a 4' x 5' area. Thanks everyone!

I use bulletin board cork for roads, parking lots etc. Mine is 1/8'' thick. Just about all I have seen is 1/8'' thick. Looks like it has gone up in price, but what hasn't.

I used original contact cement for adhesive. Coat both surfaces, let dry....stick together. Use two coats on the cork surface. The first will soak in some.

My local ACE hardware sells 1/8" cork 4 feet wide by as much as you need off a large roll of material. That's where I get mine.
Woodland Scenics sells the sheets of their black flexible foam (same stuff as their roadbed) in various thicknesses. Midwest also sells the packages of a more rigid white styrofoam in squares. Rolls of cork can be found in art supply, craft and even hardware stores.
Depending on whether you use any water-based materials for ballasting and scenicking you could also explore better quality thick paper based boards such as upson board.

Hobby Lobby has 24" X 96" rolls. I'm not sure the thickness, but this is what I used on my N Scale layout.

Depending on how much you need, you can go and buy large sheets from Amazon in a roll or even in 12"x36" sections. Cleverbrands makes the sheets.
