I am considering The Virginian from the book "Build a Small Railroad", there is no wiring scematic. Is one available?

to the fourm. Build a Small Railroad is a Kalmbach book, but not one I have. It looks like it is the same as the project railroad of the same name, featured on MR Video Plus.
For all the considerations JJ mentions, schematics don't usually accompany track plans. There are no reversing loops in the plan, so it's a straight forward design.

There must be some wiring instructions in the book you are using. If you want more general information, Kalmbach offers several books on wiring. Click on the 'Shop' heading at the top right of the main page.
There is also a 'How To' section in the black bar across the upper part of the page. There may be some useful info in there for you.
If you can post a layout plan then we would be able to give you some ideas on how to go about the wiring. If you need some help figuring out how to post a drawing of the layout or a copy of the layout from the book, we can help.

Go to page 2, the 3rd post down, there is a link to a Virginian build by a member in here. Maybe he covers the wiring, I'm not sure, you'll have to go through the link and see.
The Feb. 2012 issue has the benchwork plans from the MRR build.
The March 2012 issue has laying the track, and wiring, from the MRR build.

More Virginian wiring. Go to the black bar at the top of the page, put mouse over the "How To", in the drop down list, center column, Trackplan Data base, click on that.
Fill out the search box that appears, less than 100 sq. ft., HO scale, island type layout, type Virginian in the keyword box.
The MRR build of the Virginian will come up, top of the list, click on it. The track plan and description will come up. Scroll to the bottom of the track plan, and click on "The Virginian Ry., showing turnouts and feeder locations".
It's not the complete wiring diagram, but it shows the feeders. It's pretty straight foreward on how to wire it.
