Some Pictures of My Progress So Far!
Posted by Trainzman2435 on Monday, January 27, 2020 7:42 AM

Hello everyone, i just wanted to upload a few pictures of the progress that i have made so far on my layout. As most of you know plans always change and in my situation that applies lol. Some of you may notice that on the far end turnaround i have changed from the engine service facility and turntable to now using that space for my sand/gravel plant as well as the cement facility. I might add something else there eventually also. I have also removed the double slip crossover that ran from the lower outer line up through the yard creating a reverse loop as a lot of you suggested. As for the yard rhat was there i am not sure what or how i am going to do that yet so if you have any suggestions please let me know, i need to figure out a way to get to the cement plant and gravel yard so. I did take some of your suggestions to elevate the track at the back of the layout and instead of having a 60 degree crossing, add a bridge and cross over the lower track at the far right before the center peninsula. The elevation extends to 4" with a 2% grade. As you can see i have a 2' wide openning on the penninsula where i intend to install the Micro Engineering Tall Steel Girder Bridge. I have not gotten the benchwork for the southern most 18' bench and turnaround but hopefully soon. I also added a passing siding track partial way up the incline on the outer most line before it gets to the bridge. I could use some suggestions as far as the northern most yard with the sand/gravel plant if anyone has any. I will include a picture of the 24" bridge i intend to install so please give me your comments and or suggestions....Thanks everyone!

Looking good!

I guess I didn't realize you were building this in a seperate building.

Looks like an out door shed.  I don't see any insulation - temperature swings can be pretty brutal on a layout.

The layout could also benefit greatly from having a back drop so some kinds.  Before things get too far along, while it's easier, I suggest adding insulation and then some sort of hardboard or Masonite across those studs on the sides.   That way you can have a decent background and photographing the layout will be tons better.

Actually i forgot to mention that lol. I am planning on adding the insulation to the walls as well as a 24" masonite backdrop afterwards. The only reason i did not do the insulation first was due to a small shortage of cash flow. Thanks guys!

I would say you need to get that done now, before you go any farther.

Mike, i agree sir but i am not planning on adding anything to block the wall studs at this time. I am going to purchase the R-11 pre cut in 24" widths and add them to all of my walls between the studs. Only reason i am doing what i am doing now is because i already had the materials for benchwork and track work, i just couldnt afford the insulation due to recently getting injured at work and currently being on short term disability. I plan on returning to work on the 19th of February so then i will be able to properly insulate my building. Any ideas on what i might do on the north where the yard and round house was supposed to be but now isnt? I was thinking maybe several more switching industries....Anyone have any suggestions?
