Sounds like a rather sliding scale. The reason I asked was that the Bachmann EZ track layout was mentioned as "didn't work". Maybe it wasn't EZ?
It would be interesting to hear what the OP thinks as successful.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Soooo, upon a few weeks ago I started work on my first working HO Layout (I had one before that used Bachmann Ez track, which never worked)
The Model Railroad only consits of two loops, track from a Japanese company and Marx, Both sections are screwed and nailed oto a foam covered peice of ply, it has a small road (Cobble stone) from Lemax, working aprox. O gauge lamposts and some 1:48 scale buildings Personally its a very entertaing build, you may be wondering why I use 2nd Hand Rosko and Marx track, well the simple answer is replicating the feel of Lionel (which I feel has succeded) in such a small scale, sure I've worked on a lot of N and some OOO before however I'd thought I'd take time to experiment with the Layout that I do have!
The HO Layout is based on a Parody Series called "Thomas in O Gauge" (I'd not reccomend looking that up for the faint hearted) but I personally enjoy it
The set up will eventually use four Restored Tri-ang controllers, a pair of Battery controllers and the viraity speed controllers
How am I enjoying this, well a lot! I'm loving this build a ton
