I got a lot of work done on the layout (loco service terminal) in the Jan-April timeframe but then a new work project/team required lots of time/travel from May-November.  I subsequently accepted a very attractive job offer to return to Veritas in November which should allow me to start making more progress on the layout.

I got the benchwork pretty much completed.  It abutts a drywall backdrop that's painted solid sky blue.

The stagin/interchange area is in a different room and the masonite backdrop has to be painted.  Also, a hole needs to be punched through the wall to connect the (future) scenicked staging area to the main layout room.

Next step will likely be getting a professional (pricey) printed photo backdrop from one of the websites discussed in a recent thread.  Its for the rural section that connects the interchange with the main switching district.

Since this is a shelf switching layout, albiet fairly large, I don't have a precise trackplan.  I'll arrange the track according to a few sketches I've made and then see what works best in the flesh.  The plan is driven by industry placement and length of the spurs needed to hold the amount of cars necessary.  A big 90 degree curve of over 40 inch radius will be the only significant curve on the main layout.

My progress in 2019 consisted, ultimately, of tearing down one layout, moving over halfway across country, then starting to finish the basement for the new layout.

In 2019:  Brand new layout room completed in 2018, complete with it's own heating/cooling system (separate structure from the house); benchwork completed; backdrop up and ready to paint clouds and horizon on. Will be ready to lay track in 2020!

This sounds great.  Any pictures?

Afraid I'm with Kevin, no progress on the room.  Son that is going to help has been working on his house for loan reasons.

I could/should clean it out (trainstuff,  including a 4x6 layout), but haven't.

Let''s hope next years answers will show some progress for everyone.

Have fun,

Richard

Looking good Tom ! I like the backdrop.

Mike.

Thanks Mike.

Forget where I downloaded these from. Originally wide drawings, I used an app called Posteria to break up into standard page size so i can print on a standard printer. Each page has alignment marks.

I have accompliched zero towards the new train room in 2019.

.

It has been a bad year for layout intentions, but a great year for freight car production.

My trainroom / basement is basically finished nearly a year after pulling the permit.  Benchwork is finally going up.  Have six sections nearly completed representing about 51 linear feet.  So far sixteen feet of it is recycled/ reused from the lat layout

Well I got my train room and did all the prep work and aquired most of the lumber to build it, but it is planned for the most part, just have not had the time or inclanation to start (health problems for all this winter but nothing we won't get over).

End of year - progress

Hope all have had a great Christmas - and got all they were hoping for.

When I got back into the trains this year and had finally settled on a layout my goal was to get a train running even if on just a single piece of trackSmile I managed that, so I got the best Christmas gift - and then some!

I have most of the shelf portion laid, got lighting installed, most of the turnouts done and the backdrop started.

Next year a whole new set of opportunities will greet me.

Have a safe new year.

Tom
