That's what you call dispatching.

Hello Rich

1.Yes the #1210 at the top left is going to be a double crossover. Though if I decide to use this setup I will position the double crossover towards the center. As I mentioned earlier I am leaning more to the triple continous loop.

2.The #1245 at the bottom is the only double slip. It will be mainly put in the closed position so the train will traverse from either the inside to the outside retrospectively pending on direction of travel. Normal position will cause it to travel into the industrail area.

3.Yes #1323 are crossing only. This will help keep the train flowing over a new set of tracks on every pass.

4.The trains can be run in either direction, at any time. Do this by running the train through the yard and then putting another set or the same locomotives at the other end of the train.

5. Yes I will have one large train running the spiral or two smaller ones. While operating the industrail with another train and having multiple movements in the yard and engine storage area.

Thanks for your questions.

Clayton

OK, thanks for that additional information. To each, his own, but this is more of a game than an operational layout. It isn't really a switching puzzle or anything like that. It seems to be more of a timing issue to avoid collisions between two trains moving in opposite directions.

Hello Mike.

Thats why I might move to the triple loop it looks more practical and the cost will be reduced. Plus i will have more room to decorate.

Yep, got it.  That's ALOT of track!

Hello Mel.

You got to have some way for your trains to enter the layout instead of the magic hand directly onto the mainlinesHmm. Some people are not into switching. Me I am into both sides of the coin. Plus I am not into grades since for the most part the MoPac was a mostly flat railroad. Also I am using a 4x8 plan because I dont know what size of the room I wil be using. Plus I want to start out simple then expand to an empire.

Whey too much track for me, but I’m not into switching either.  Top track looks useless to me.

My layout is a simple twice around loop consisting of 120’ of track with a 3½% grade on a 14’ x 10’ layout, a little bit of everything.

Hello Kevin

Yes it can be either a challenge or just a free run. if you are just wanting to run the trains. There will be some scenery mainly buisnesses and open fields. with a few homes scatered. I plan to attach exter sections to railroad X later on after I complete it.

It looks like more of an operational challenge than a model railroad.

.

The design reminds me a bit of my plans for what was supposed to be the second N scale STRATTON AND GILLETTE, but it was never built.

I never seem to have enough patience to figure out these types of layouts, so let me ask a few questions.

1. Is the #1210 at the top left of the layout supposed to be a double crossover?

2. Is the #1245 at the bottom of the layout the only double slip?

3. Are the #1323 tracks supposed to be crossovers, not crossings?

4. Are trains intended to only run in one direction, no opportunity to change direction?

5. So, you plan to run 2 or 3 trains at a time, at least 1 train in each direction?

Hello! Bigdaddy thanks for hijacking this photo. Because here on this fourm it's not easy to post a screenshot or any other photos. Yes this is a 4x8 layout. Which I have been in the planning stages with the quadriple loop as shown and the triple loop also. The regular two connecting switches at the top between the loop and the siding for the interchange is suposed to be a double crossover, the program don't have the double crossover listed. This will play as the sole conector for railroad X to drop off cars for my railroad. I forgot to center it as in comparsion to the triple loop in which I foucused more onto. The mainline for the interchange is opened for future expansions and this will be where the locomotives and cars will be able to enter and exit the 4x8 on either side.Yes there is a siding in between the yard limits too. This will alow the working train to rest before or after entering the yard. Where you see the blue dots on the interchange. This is open track without bumpers. You should be able to tell the difference with this comparsion to the black bumpers in the industrail and the fan for the locomotives.

If you look harder this loop would alow only one large or two short trains travling in the same direction. If not you will eventualy have a collision. The 1245 is a doubleslip instead of a regular crossover, which alows for the train to continue around the spiral in either directon. I am leaning more on the design of the triple and the triple's industrail area due to the setup. The object here is to run a train in either direction continously covering all three or four of the looops without crossing the same track at each time. While this train is running non stop at a normal speed. You can have one or more trains working the yard and another working the industrail area at anygive time. No I don't plan to put it up against the wall due to the reason of reach. Plus I don't plan to put it up too high either. Yes I plan to put 4-6" plexglass around the board to prevent CATastrophic results. Yes with 2-3 or more trains running at any given time. This will be a busy layout. No simple roundy round. More like orginazed chaos without the trauma. One will need skills and constantly thinking what to do next. Almost like the real thing. Though if you look at the triple loop you will see an easier running setup.

Cheers

Clayton

BigDaddy

I hiijacked you picture so people can see it.

There are 5 x 10 blocks but according to the metric measurement, it is a 4x8' layout.  A 4 track main line with interchange track at the top, the top most track has no room to move more than a car or two in or out of it.  It looks too "busy" to me with to much track, but I'm just a guy at the end of the bar.

I can't comment on Tomix track but if one of the long sides of the layout is against the wall, you will need a hatch in the middle to reach that track

Triple or quadruple continuous loop tomix 4x8
Posted by Mo-Pac on Friday, November 29, 2019 4:22 AM

I have been tring to decide which continous loop layout, I am looking foward to build. I have been leaning to the triple due to the use of the curve switches that Tomix offers. Plus I can't wait to use the triple switches and the double slip(which is going to be in place of the last "crossover" so the train can continue back around the spiral. I am going to be using DCC fo many reasons. For one I can let one train run the spiral while operaiting two other either in the yard or the industrail area. Plus I was going to use a turntable for the roundhouse area, but opt out because I saw the roundhouse of Mckeesport,PA. To me this was intresting. Yes I included a interchange also. Any questions please ask.
