Are there automatic turnouts????????
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 4, 2005 10:47 PM
[xx(] I have two areas on my layout that the train approaches from the frog side of the turnout. I have atlas snap switches and would hope that there is a way for an automated system to change the points to proper direction before the train gets to the turnout. My layout is DC.
Thanks, Jon

If your trains always approach from the frog side and you never try to back up through the turnout, you could remove the motor and let the turnout points float. That way, the locomotive wheels should be able to pu***he points whichever way they need to be as it goes though.

Cacole, woulden't that cause some problems with some rolling stock? Happy railroading, clear signals ahead, notch 8, here we go!

Jon,

the ZIMO MX82 accessory decoder does that for you. Download the manual here: http://www.mrsonline.net/html/manuals.html
and check it out on page 6. You could even use the same outputs as inputs to drive servos.

Maybe some absolute featherweight things, but with any and all springs removed, the points should move VERY freely.
