Split station
Posted by Graffen on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 11:57 AM

Hi all!

Big Smile

I'm building my layout again after the summer months.

The town of Holy cross on my HOn3 layout is slowly taking shape.

But, I realised that the station took up too much real estate.

I therefore decided to move it to the aisle side of the rails.

The space was a bit narrow though. So, I decided to cut the building in half lengthwise. Tongue Tied

That makes it possible to see the interior of it and make it a bit of a show point.

The starting point was an Atlas station.

I cut it in half and used the remaining pieces to make the interior walls.

The cut was painted red to highlight it.

What do you think?

I like that idea.  I put a background building, the Walthers Arrowhead Brewing Company, on the aisle that way.  Face on from the layout side, it had all small windows and wasn't worth an interior, but with the back exposed I had the opportunity to add tanks and piping for a more interesting model.

My problem, though, was protecting it from myself as I walked by on that narrow aisle.  Simplicity on the building's roofline, no ornaments, signs or tall chimneys, will help with that.

What do you think?

I think that's a great solution! I've seen it done with big structures like a roundhouse. Think of the photo opportunities where you can shoot a train passing by through the windows.

Great idea! Thanks for sharing—

I like it!

I agree taking photos from the inside out would be cool. You should have a little person washing windows staring back at anyone the bends over to have a look inside.Laugh
