Starting to experiment with lighting for my lower deck. Has anyone tried the Micro Mark high intensity LED lighting in the 16 foot rolls? If so, how did it do? Did you need to double it up like MR's Log Blog layout? Thanks.
Why would you use the Micro-Mark product when something similar is available at every big box home improvement store?

Is there something about this product that makes it more suitable than the others?

Nearest big box store is a 1.5 hour roundtrip commitment and they usually don't have the quantity I need when I'm looking for something electrical. Figured if I'm going to have to order something online I might as well see if anyone's worked with this product.
I've ordered off Ebay the 5mm cool white LED strip lighting and the 12V DC 5AMP power supply from Amazon. I can power 3 sets of the LED strip lights with that as my lower level is close to 40 feet. Much cheaper than Micro Mark.

I haven't used the Micromark LED lighting. I have two areas that are currently lit with LED lighting from Lee Valley. (Lee Valley primarily sells to wood workers, but have a range of quality products.) They offer three different brightness levels, two different colors plus RGB, and a range of dimmers, power supplies, etc.
The two areas I used the LEDs in are low overhead spaces, and I tried to match the brightness level of the rest of the layout. The rest of the layout is lit with 75W equivilant CFLs at either 16" or 12" oc (depending on distance from the track). The LEDs are only about 8" from track, and it required the highest density LED lighting available in a single strip to match. If I were to try to use LED strip lighting for the entire layout, I would probably use two strips of white LEDs plus one of the RGB.
Thank you for the info and the links. I am going to try ordering a couple things and experimenting. The areas I have to light go from narrow (about 1.5' to up to 3' deep, although the 3' deep section won't all be modeled). I've also since watched the "It's My Railroad episode where he lights the bottom deck of his layout with Hitlights. One more option to try.
