My small NYSW Utica branch layout
Posted by emdmike on Sunday, May 26, 2019 8:35 PM

Been making slow progress on my little Susie-Q branch line layout set in the late 1980's.  Got my engine house weathered by a friend just recently and started making up car cards for my rolling stock so I can interchange with other local layouts.   I sold the brass GP20, along with a few other items so I can pick up another factory painted brass diesel.  Most all of the NYSW power ran up the Utica branch back in the time frame I am modeling as the primary shops were in Utica, NY.  So the plan is to add one of the GE 8-40B's to my roster.  Most locals ran with single locomotive, so I will use the C430 or the 8-40B. Someone on another group posted a pic of a NYSW stacker that detoured up the line, so that gives me the ablity to feature a stack train.  So I will be preordering a 5 car set of the early style(that clamped the upper containers) red NYSW/Sea Land set from Intermountain.  While I am not going for exact models of the line side industries, I will do the scenery to give the layout the "flavor" of the line.  Grain from the Onida grain elevator, supplies inbound and dog food outbound from the plant at Sherburne, NY. A future addition is a bit of street running down Schuyler St to the FX Matt Brewery in Utica.   Here we see C430 #3000 with train UT-1 pulling up to the dog food plant in Sangerfield.  Much more will get done this fall scenery wise and I plan to swap out the track for Kato Unitrak as well.    Mike the Aspie
