Hello All, newbie here trying to get a layout started. Long ago I was going to build a layout but never got beyond a small test track. I decided to get back into it and pulled out my small collection of HO engines and rolling stock. Recently purchased a few things (recovering from price shock!!) and building some models. Anyways I have a portion of my basement I've designated for the layout. I took some measurements, as accurate as possible since all my music equipment is still in the way. I put up one hollow core door leftover from home remodeling on one wall on homemade 2x4 brackets. I'm interested in the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision. I want to model at least one grain elevator, some type of oil refinery (ExxonMobil in Joliet), and there is some type of business near Streator that loads covered shoppers with portable conveyors. Not sure what, but perfect for model railroading. Sooo.....maybe this sounds lazy, but I was wondering if some of you can make some layout suggestions. I'm interested in 30" curves if possible because I'm thinking of 80s to present era. I just tried to upload a photo of my sketch, but don't understand how to do that. I'm using a tablet so maybe that has something to do with it. Basically the area of the layout is 22'x8', but narrows down to 5.5' on one end due to a doorway. Hopefully someone can explain how to upload my drawing. Sorry so long of a post. Thanks in advance!

Choose the "share photo" icon on the Flickr page (curved arrow, lower right), select BB Code, select the image size, copy the line of code that appears, paste into the forum, carriage return.
I'm always partial to an around the room design rather than a dog bone. Think of a big oval with a large chunk of SE corner cut off at a 45 degree angle to allow space for the door swing. At 8 feet, OP really doesn't have room for a peninsula.
80s era to present suggests longer cars, and the oval shape might allow for some pretty broad curves.
The problem with an oval is that it makes for a short mainline run.
OP could also slice through the powder room to place a single track above the sink and toilet to access a staging shelf in the storage room.

Douglass, that is what I was thinking. Around the room on shelf type layout combined with some grid work across the areas with no walls. I'm not positive a 30" curve could be done on the short side. I sort of tested it with some string and it appears it would, but the details how are unclear to me.
I would like to go through the bathroom to the storage area, but as I am just getting started I want to save that for the future. I was thinking of planning a yard between the bathroom and the post (square). I could push the 8' out a bit in that area. Probably 2 feet, but I should go back and measure that.

First off, to the forum. As to your question about posting pictures, I use Imgbb.com.
When it comes to loading pictures, it will ask you in what image code you want to use when you upload your images; select direct link. Then, when you want to post the picture, copy the URL and paste it into the link icon (looks like a chain link) in your post.
