Green is usually the straight route through the turnout, red is the diverging route.  If you don't throw a turnout, the indicator that was lit remains lit, because nothing has happened.

OK, well switch as in track turnout? switch as in toggle switch? switch as in rocker switch?,  switch as in rotary switch? switch as in the light switch on your wall?

And I'm sure I've not included every type of switch, and what it might be used for. Confused

I just covered the basic switches that might be associated with a layout, there is long list.

Hi,

I am  new to operating a layout.  Generaly, what color do you use

when you throw a switch? Red or Green ight indicators.   What color

do you use when you don't throw a switch? Red or Green light indicators.
