Micro Engineering turnout dimensions
Posted by Union Pacific 428 on Saturday, February 23, 2019 3:59 PM

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how much shorter ME’s HO scale no. 5a turnouts are than their no. 6’s?

I know they are part of the “yard ladder” set, but I’m planning on using them standalone for a double ended siding and I’m not sure how much space they’ll save. Thanks

There are pdf's for the 5 series.

The ME site is definitely lacking.  However, google says the template for the #6 is here

took me 4 tries to get those links clickable so I'm not messing with that post. Geeked

I don't know much about the system.  Ken Patterson claimed he saved about a foot for his yard, using the ME system.  The stated length increases from 5c to 5e.  The pics on the Crusader site, confirm that is true.

  • The 6 is 10.857
  • The 5a is 10.416
  • The 5b is 9.269
  • The 5c is 7.284
    The 5d is 7.489
    The 5e is 9.474

You are saving 0.44" on either end

Thanks for the info. The 5 is almost the same size. Sounds like no. 6 it is.

On the ME site the templates (and other information) is in download files under the Shop Online menu selection.

Note that turnout #5a is a standard #5 turnout and is not used with the other turnouts which are not standard #5's.  You can build a ladder using all #5's or #5b thru #5e.
