VA layout ground foam color(s)
Posted by kasskaboose on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 1:55 PM

Would anyone have solid suggestions on ground cover color(s) for a VA layout in spring?  My 1st one had some great color combinations, but felt that many looked too bright.  Not going for a rainbow, but realism.

I have the following in mind but happy to change out or consider:

https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/search?search_query_adv=EX810b (Spring Green fine);

https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/scenic-express-ex884e-flock-turf-ground-cover-alpine-meadow-blend-48-oz-eco-pack/(Alpine Meadow);

https://www.modeltrainstuff.com/scenic-express-ex886b-flock-turf-ground-cover-farm-pasture-blend-32-oz/ (since western VA has a lot of pasture land)

I plan to put on the ground cover while the paint on the foam is still wet.  Of course I will use white water on top.

Thanks!

I just did a search for VA pastures in the springtime, and looked at images.  What have picked out looks as good as any.

That's the way your going to tell, is by comparison with images, etc.  Hard to get a good look from the little squares, as it is somewhat hard to get a real look just by images, but your going to have to compromise sometime along the way, or wait for springtime in VA and visit.

Thanks Mike!  I guess you're right that no one will question the colors provided they look somewhat realistic.  Yes, compromises need to get made.  Picking the blend mix offers a lot of variety, and so too is using different types of turf (ie fine or not).
