Howdy All

I took some fall photos I want to use as a backdrop on one section of my layout. besides useing matte photo paper, I am having a heck of a time sizing to photo to be 5 inches high by 11 inches long. Anyone know the alchemy used to get proper size? I have a HP all in one printer/scanner/ etc etc. Thanks in advance

Most photo editing software has both pixel and inches to size your pictures.

I did not know that.  I was using printer software.  Which program should I use?

I use Irfanview, a free download:

https://www.irfanview.com/

After loading your photo, go to IMAGE - RESIZE/RESAMPLE, select the units you want (pixels, cm or inches). Uncheck PRESERVE ASPECT RATIO if you would like to control width and height independently.

Chances are you will need to resize your picture and/or adjust dpi. Paint.net is a free editor that you can acomplish the task with. If you never used a photo editor budget for hour or two for reading instructions.

Your steps would be to Create new canvas with exact inches size taking you of your printer into accout, paste your picture in and position, resize as needed. Then print.

PS: usually software bundled with printer will only accomplish trivial / rudimentary tasks. Use better tools

Regards

Anton.

Check your settings before you print. If you are using Windows Picture Viewer (included free with Windows) there is an option to ‘fit picture to frame’. Click it to turn it off. That should solve your problem of the width being 11 inches. To make the photo 5 inches you will need to cut it with scissors.
To access Windows Picture Viewer open the folder that contains your pictures and right click on the thumbnail then select the Preview option. When the picture opens up click the drop down print menu.
Personally, I cut the sky out of my backdrop photos and just use sky blue paint on the back drop wall.
