If this is a DC layout, reversers don’t work as they do with DCC

Yup, you have a reversing loop. The train enters at one direction, goes around the loop, and after passing the turnout, goes back on the main in the opposite direction.

I suggest you get Kalmbachs book Wiring Your Model Railroad. This is more complicated than just adding a reversing switch. You also need to insulate the loop or part of it. Depending on how you have wired the rest of the layout, more may be needed.

I added another swith beside the bottom left of the layout beside the exiting switch and then just a large loop back to the same switch. Do i use the reverse in this new loop? The loop itself is to th left of existing layout.
Welcome to the forum. The Gallery isn't readily searchable by title but the #25 can be found here, without labels http://www.theweebsite.com/trains/gallery/ho25.html
I don't know where you could squeeze another loop in there but if it's parallel to the other 3 mainlines, no. If your engine can pass through the loop and end up on a piece of track on which it was travelling in the opposite direction, you do need a reverser.
There is a separate sticky on how to post photos, maybe because it was copyrighted, you didn't want run afoul of the management. Eventurally you will want to show us something, and you can't improvise on posting pics.
While I don't have access to the layout diagram, I can tell you about an easy way to determine if you need a reversing switch.
With a pencil or your finger, run around the various routes on the layout or diagram. If you get to the point that your direction is reversed, you will need a reversing section/switch.

I have been building this layout up and running ok, but i have decided to add a new loop on the lower left hand side of the layout. It is a new switch near the C6 location on the diagram, do i need to add a reversing switch to prevent a short and where do i add it? Many thanks, any help would be appreciated. I have uploaded a diagram to the Photo Galleries entitled Atlas # 25 Layout. (this photo will be available when authorization is complete 24 hrs.
Thanks again Brian
