Interesting stuff, for sure. I've got one those Tyco things around here, some place.
I've never tried it. I think it takes steel track, for the magnets?

Not at all my cup of tea, Rich, but very interesting, to say the least. You get a lot of points for imagination and having fun! I look forward to seeing updates.

rich,
Very enjoyable. I like your creativity and vision. If anyone has a concern about your "prototype" I hope they consider how much of THEIR prototype they've already modeled -- if they haven't already accomplished as much as you, then maybe they have the WRONG prototype?
We hear about prototype all the time now and it is important. It also powers a lot of the procrastination people often agonize over. They want to get it "right."
To build skills, you have to get it "done." That's what feeds your skill set and delineates what is within your imagination to accomplish. You may still be modeling Mars 20 years from now. Or you may have moved on to "something a little more down to earth." Either way, what you learned by building this layout will mostly stick with you regardless of what prototype you model in the future.

I read your blog every time you post something here about it. Thank you. And as always, please keep us updated.
I've just written a blog post on how a forty-year-old MR article inspired my latest layout. The "Mines of Xenon" sci-fi model railroad is a fun little pike based in outer space with astronauts, dinoaurs, and robots run amok.
Still plenty to do, but wanted to post something this month.
Check it out - if you dare!
