Modular Layout Geology
Posted by Ivorwatch Locomotive Works on Saturday, March 3, 2018 4:22 PM

I'm beginning my fourth layout in a very limited space, and decided on three requirements:

  • Layout must be in 2'x2' modules
  • Each module must have a different "geology"
  • Railroad is freelance, no real-world constraints

I'm currently building the geo-scenery (rocks, water features, terrain) and have a rough idea of what each module will be like, but I'm concerned about the transitions between modules, such as from a chalky whitestone to a sedimentary clay to a craggy granite mountain. They are designed to be easily separable, but I would like for the layout to appear seamless when assembled. How would I go about doing this with rock transitions?
