I have just seen offered an O scale Adlake working ground throw (he calls it a switch stand, guess real railroads do that) and it is lighted too. Wonder in this age of 3D printing in metal if an HO scale one can be made?
You probably can, but would it worth the time, expense and effort?

Hey, I don't need the lighting and the O scale ones are only $25 each, not bought in bulk.

I suspect you'll break a real scale working ground throw with you big gigantasorus fingers.
Why not use these, and keep your fingers to yourself:

They look kinda neat.

No what I asume is that the O scale one is 3-D printed in brass.
The Rapido switchstand is available separately, and they come with the cam so you can drive them off the throwbar. The Central Valley switchstand does too.

I don't recall that Adlake (AKA Adams & Westlake Company) ever made any type of switchstand.
Racor, Wabtec, Buda, Ajax and maybe a few others, yes. Adlake made switch lamps, of course. Along with window shades, sun visors and door and window hardware.
Cheers, Ed

True. But you didn't say you wanted your ground throws to be only activated by the hand of "the big guy". You will note that Rapido DOES sell a working ground throw, which is what you asked for.
But if you want it to be a "do it yourself" kind of thing, have you tried the N scale Caboose ground throws. I hear some people use those, though I haven't.
I don't know what you mean by working, but working generally means fuctioning, not imatating.

Good point. I guess I'm kind of stuck on how HO imitates the prototype, in that it doesn't really function as a real railroad.
So, didya try the N scale ground throws?
I've been using N-scale #206s Caboose ground throws instead of HO-scale ones since the 80's and have not had any problems' with them. Controlling 18 Atlas customline #4 turnouts, all others are machine controlled. In the photo, the one on the left controls that turnout, the second one controls the turnout in the street by linkage in a brass tube buried in the street/ground....works like a charm. They are still some what oversize, but beat the beastly looking HO scale ones.
If You click on the photo it will be just about exact scale size, the track and ground throw.
Take Care!
Frank
They don't have enough throw for Shinohara code 70's.

Did You try it? I heard they would not work on the turnouts I used them on also.....but they forgot to tell the turnouts...LOL

I will stick with my oversize HO throws at least they help me me with my poor coordination.

Yes, I get that but with everything I have being scale or semi scale (grab irons are still to thick on most of my stuff though I have some that are scale), I need to upgrade the last item that is grossly over sized and toy like.

But you can get them with the switch machine to go underneath...

Yes, but I don't want switch maschines, at all. I like the feel of manual moving of the points.
