What's On My Workbench - Big Chill Edition
Posted by Modeleer on Friday, February 9, 2018 10:15 PM

Winter has been ushering me to the basement lately and I've made a lot of progress the last 3 months. Here you see the platform for underground passenger station of my Mines of Xenon diorama.

Workbench for Mines of Xenon sci-fi model railroad

I've been able to kitbash a science fiction locomotive and pretty much finish up the subterranean station. I've had fun staging and photographing the trains. Pics to follow. Check out my blog for progress on the entire sci-fi layout "The Mines of Xenon".

My vision of Sci-Fi and railroading is the steampunk stuff.

I love the idea of a sci-fi layout.

.

If I was going to start over again, I would do a post-apocolyptic-dystopian free lanced line.

That's great, Mike!

Have you come across Laurie Calvert's modelling? He's done some really neat sci-fi and steampunk stuff. He has A LOT of videos on Youtube.

Most of all, it looks like he is having fun, which is the name of the game!

@Batman - no worries! Any post with trains in it is good enough for me.

I've always wanted to do a proper roundhouse, but era and space never let me get around to it.

Good job. Press on and have fun!

@Kevin - thanks for your post. Have you ever thought of a diorama?

You can keep it small so it's not a big commitmnet. You can try a new scale or era, practice scenery or modelling techniques, or even a different planet! Can be a nice break when it seems like you're in a rut with the main layout.

Whatever you decide, keep modelling!

Nope. Right now building Warhammer 40,000 ORK models satisfies my desire for dystopian nightmare modeling.

.

Plus, they are the wrong scale, so no chance of inter-hobby nonsense.

This is the most recent model I finished building:
