The one I'm thinking of was actually in MR. But the concept is exactly the same. The MR one had the spring on top. Over the years there were at least two similar articles in MR actually. At least one of them was, i think, associated with one of the small HO project railroads.

In fact it may have been a sidebar, rathr than a full article, which is why I am so far not turning it up in searches. I seem to recall at least one of these was by Jeff Wilson.

I know the basics but if I remember the article right, it gave exact details. If anyone can remember the article I might be able to fine it, even the exact wording of the title.

There was an article in MR many moons ago about the "Ridiculously Simple" switch machine which was more or less an over-center spring shaped much liek the Peco spring, works with any turnout, you just need a hole in the throwbar and a hole in a tie one or two ties away. ANd a bent piece of springy wire.

I recall seeing a site that describes how to modify almost all turnouts to have an overcenter spring like that of Peco. Just can't remember where it was at the moment?....likely you could google it

Many moons ago I remember someone modified other turnouts to work like Peco's sprung turnouts. Would like to explore that option as I get ready to start new layout.
