Book that contains this layout?
Posted by sivads on Friday, November 24, 2017 4:32 PM

I'm looking for the title/author of the book that contains the attaced HO layout.  This is the layout I created as a kids and now my son and I are working on restoring it -- but I can't remember the name of the book.  I can only find the layout page that I believe was in the center of the 8"x11" paperback book.  It was from a popular book in the early 70's (?)

Thanks!

It seems to be based on Western Maryland Railway/Blackwater Division (Junction):

That drop-leaf yard was an addition to it...

It looks to me like the old "HO Railroad That Grows" plan by Linn Westcott - and yes, "step 8" of that plan was a drop leaf yard.

I agree.  It origionally was a series in Model Trains Magazine.

It is also on the Model Railroader Special Issue DVD, which is no longer available.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Ah yes!  That's it -- Linn Westcott.  Thank you very much!  Plan is to restore as is, then convert to DCC.  I'm seeing that things have changed quite a bit since the mid-70s.  Ha!  Thanks again.
