Double deck layout
Posted by TROOPERSMOKEY on Monday, November 20, 2017 4:50 PM

Is it wrong to have the lower deck 24 inches wide and the upper deck at 18 inches? I’ve seen some with the smaller deck on top. Welcoming your thoughts and suggestions

Absolutely not. That's usually the way they are, the bottom one is a little wider. My advice would be just make sure you get the heights right so it's comfortable for you to work on each level and a comfortable reach on both levels.

Honestly I'm not into double three-dimensional worlds in my modeling. That's just me though, it's good we're all different everyone likes what they like.

Have fun with that

Those seem about right. Any width shelves are ok. It’s up to the builder. I mean 48 inches might be too wide but it’s up to you. 30 inches is about as wide as you might want to go, other wise you might have problems reaching stuff in the back.

I'm building another layout and will have the lower level width 24" and the upper level will be 18" wide. The separation will be 16" between the tops of each level. Since I'm short, my lower level will be at 38" and the upper level will be 54" I can reach the back part of the top level with no issues and if need be, I have my 'short helper' (2 step stool).

Jusy make sure that you can reach everything on the upper shelf without accidently crushing anything on the lower shelf.  An upper level just below armpit height (yours, not Shaq's) will ensure this.
