Well, Marklin decided to "upgrade" their track system to be more in line with the requirements of their proprietary digital command control system (based on a Motorola protocol) over 30 years ago, when they replaced the old tin-plate track with their current C-Gleis track system. Apparently, they had no faith in their old system to be a stable medium to carry the digital signal.

I know of people who converted their M track (sounds like Amtrak) layouts to Marklin´s digital control system and are happy with it.

M track is old, made of tin-plate, is for 3-rail AC alone and prone to rust. Unless you want to build a Marklin nostalgic layout, like they did in the 1960s, you´d  better stay away from it!

Does anyone think its a wise choice for me to purchase used M track as i have heard many bad points and some good points. Its just i notice there is an abundence of it on ebay at good prices but is it right you can only run Marklin trains on it and will it cost me more upgrading the electronics to dcc.
