One of the trade offs in this hobby is time vs money. In your case you want to save time and are willing to spend the money. The only limitation I see is the fixed radius of 18 and 22 inches. For a layout based on 4x8 sheets this isn't much of a limitation since 22 inches is the limiting radius possible anyway. You can always use some flex track for a special situation. Either solder some of the joints or run extra feeders so you don't electrical problems.

Hobby time is too short to waste on the parts you don't like if there is another way.

Can someone offer arguments against using true-track for a new layout? I'm going to be using two 4x8 sheets of mdf in a "L" shape, so I'm going to have room for a largish layout. I'm not terribly interested in spending a lot of time on roadwork, but i do want a moderate amount of flexibility.

From what I can tell, it comes down to aesthetics and cost. A lot of modelers tend to be ground-up kind of folks and I'm just not that guy (yet, anyway). I have a finite amount of time and I'd like to use it on other aspects of the layout. Cost is a factor, but given that my investment period is over months instead of all-at-once, I think I can ease that pain.

Any comments or thoughts are welcome.
