Whats the best way to paint and weather Kato track ? Can you ballast it? I am modeling a Small short line so I don't want it to look so perfect. What about end of track bumpers for a short line?

If I was going to weather my UniTrack and wanted it to look like a branch line also, I would use a color like Grimey black to both weather the sides of the rail and make the ballast look like cinders and then build up the scenery on both sides of the track to look like it was more "Laid in the weeds" sort of speak.
I use N-Scale Unitrack on my main line and Railcraft code 70 for my siding and industry tracks. These tracks are buried in cinder ballast and laid right on top of the surface of my door. This way the secondary tracks have a slight "Run-off" and sit at a lower elevation than the main line.
Good luck,
gtirr
