Rail Jointers
Posted by starman on Sunday, February 26, 2017 10:28 AM
As I have said in other post, I am building my first layout.  I have laid cork roadbed and am now laying track.  I am using HO Code 100 flex track.  I have just begun laying track and I am having a terrible time installing rail jointers.  I am using Atlas rail jointers from a package that says they are for Code 83 and Code 100 track.  What is the secret to installing rail jointers?  Thanks for your help.

As I said, this is my first layout.  I just figured out my problem.  I was simply trying to install the rail jointers wrong.  Once I figured it out, they now go on just fine.  Thanks anyway.

A pair of Xuron rail nippers and a small file will make it easy to get a good cut edge on your rails, making it easier to get the rail joiners on.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

When you separate the Atlas joiners be careful to remove the little 'tab' that connects them.  If bent up it will hang up on the base of the rail.  If it's bent down, and you haven't removed the end tie on the flex, it will catch against the plastic tie.  The best cure is to get rid of it altogether, with something that cuts clean like a Xuron rail nipper.
