Thomas and Friends + DCC
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, December 10, 2004 10:22 AM
Good day. In order to keep active in my model railroading, I have to keep my four year old daughter interested as the two of us live alone. I have EZ-Track which we set up winding around our living room periodically, which I run Thomas and Friends pieces on. Whenever I try and work on MY layout, which is downstairs, my daughter seems interested for short periods of time. Therefore it takes me forever to get anything accomplished.

What I would like to do is run Thomas and friends on my DCC layout. Has anyone converted the DC versions to DCC? Or, is a DCC version available?

P.S. Thomas and Friends was the inspiration that got me into the sport.

We have done it and it is fairly simple. We used the Bachmann version and there is a board inside that was removed and the wires from the decoder was soldered and insulated. Fairly straight forward.

We used a DZ143 Digitrax Z scale decoder as it was the smallest decoder we had.

I was in a club that placed a DCC decoder in an HO Thomas (I think it was an N-scale decoder) and at the train shows it always got a lot of attention. Recently, we've noticed that Thomas has come up missing! Can't find that fellow. He sure is popular with the kids. Make sure you run the two coaches (Clarabel and Anna) with him.

Ditto.

Just pull the cab roof off to get to the board (You can scrap the board if you want a bit of extra room.) A DH123 will also fit (A close fit but it will fit...I'd go with the DZ for an easier
job.
