Nice to look at but neither would work. Our bed is an old waterbed with a regular materss in it and the bottom is solid. The one that moves up and down the bed would be a fooy buster. Not enough room for it and a walkway between the wall. Thanks anyways.

I do have one of those bed trays. It got a lot of use for a few months but it didnt have a grawer... That is a great idea thought, it would keep it steady. Thank you

Yes, Mike has a good idea! The bed table would be good, one like this:

If you have the room there are others that completely straddle the bed:

You could get a nice-sized switching layout on that and be able to carefully wheel it out of the way. Let me know what you decide. I have had a pretty busy week but I'll get time to write back tonight,

Regards, Ed

I might just stick with a piece of 1/4 plywood. I have 5 Beagles and I am sure they would chomp on the foam. To tell you the truth, I haven`t the slightest idea if we have any Boy Scouts around here or not. I know we have Girl Scouts, because my wife bought some of their over priced cookies... I may have to look into that.

3/4 foam glued to a piece of masonite would give you light weight with rigidity.  Do you have any friends that are scoutmasters who could recruit some boy scouts to help you?

Just a thought, how about something that uses one of those hospital bed trays, as a bench.  You know the type, where the legs go under the bed, and postion and height can be adjusted where ever you want it, than push it away when you done.

I've even seen some that have small drawers, where you could put the controls.  This would even work at bedside.

Mike.

I built a layout in n scale many years ago in the 2" blue foan and just didn`t like it. Seemed like it was too thick. Now with me being trapped in the bed 24/7, I need something as thin and compact as can be. A bed is just not the ideal place but I have no choice...... I might be able to get around a wheel chair but everything is in the basement and I can`t build anything N scale with my grandkids! I ould have nothing left and they would break whatever they could. Our future raised by Snart phones and TV. I do have an old Lionel down there but I have no idea is it works and as usual no where to put it up here.

N scale layout I would think 2 " foam in the dimensions given would suit the needs of the op nicely. Something like mc fujiwara( please excuse the spelling) just built with his kids. Not sure if he hangs out here much anymore, nbut might be something to consider.

Hi, Bill

I sent an email to that address so we can see what we can come up with.

We can go from there,

Forget I even asked this. I think it was just a pipe dream anyways.... If I could ever get out of bed, I will have someone take me to Mansfield and see if the Hobby Shop has any ideas. Sounds a lot easier than it is though!

Hello Ed, can you email me off list at [address removed by admin]? It would be in N scale but money is the big factor. I was thinking of something maybe 1/4" or
3/8" plywood about 3' x 18". I wouldn`t think that would be all that heavy and I
have a bookshelf, well cut down, so it is just 2 shelves and the top. I could
just set right on top of that and move my 50 billion bottles of meds down a
shelf. I figured something that size should be fairly light, maybe I am day
dreaming as well I want to try and at least get something running but $912 a
month leaves you no money for anything. I am glad I picked up what I could
before OSU had my guts laying everywhere...... I know there is a ton of stuff
down stairs  and I have a box full in the little china cabinet in the bedroom. I
figured something that size in N scale would give me a few switching
opportunities, if not more. Thank you, Bill

Hi, Bill

I live on the far east side of Cleveland (not far from PE tower on the Nickel Plate).

I wondered just what you had in mind as far as a switching layout you could use on your bed? While you're in it? Sort of like a TV tray? Or that you set over the bed then put away at night? That in itself would be heavy to lift. I can do all sorts of wood work like building benchwork and such for you. Maybe even make it like a kit you could assemble yourself with carriage bolts and wing nuts.

If you could give me some sketches of what you have in mind maybe I could put something together and have UPS deliver it or drive over if necessary. I'm probably about 2 hours away.

I have lots of family in the Mansfield Reformatory... well OK, maybe not Whistling

Time is one thing I have very little of but if you let me know more details maybe I can make something up for you.

Regards, Ed

live in the Richland county area? I was looking for some that might be able to build a small switching layout I could use on my bed. I have no way to make one any more and was wondering if I could get some help??? I can do about any era from the early 50`s or so diesels to the NS NKP engine. Is anyone willing to help me? I can pay you in frieght cars or a couple of locomatives maybe as I have been out of work and pretty much flat broke. Nothing real big, as I have lost all my body strength and can`t lift crap any more. If you can help, please let me know. Thaank you, Bill Godby
