I'm not into N scale, but how big the yard ladder is doesn't really have anything to do with what brand you buy. It is all dependent upon what frog angle you use, the space between yard tracks you want, and the ladder type used.
The most space efficient yard ladders are compound ladders as described in the December issue of MR by Andy Sperando. Pick up a copy and look at page 69. Its all right there.

I am presently redesigning our club's layout yard and would like to be able to install as many tracks as possible while minimizing the space eaten up by the ladder(s).The layout is running on DCC and we run all types of equipment, including long Superliner cars and big steamers..I would like to have an opinion(s) from experienced modeller(s) as to which brand and model of turnouts would give us the best results in both space saving and flawless operation.Thanks.
