N Scale Walk-In Build
Posted by STEVE WOJCIK on Monday, December 28, 2015 10:53 AM

Hey guys, it's winter and time to hibernate inside. After more than a year of research and planning I've started building my basement layout. Total footprint is 8' x 9'4".

L Girder Benchwork

I'm using the L Girder benchwork that David brought to my attention in a recent MRVP episode. It's VERY sturdy and light weight.

I decided to go with N scale. I wanted to go with HO but I didn't want it to totally consume the extra room I had in the basement. N scale just provided me with more possibilities in the space I was willing to use. this image has a piece of Atlas code 55 flex track on the L girder just for scale.

Looks like your off to a good start.  You can put a lot of N scale railroad in that space.  Good luck!

Steve:

The bench work looks good! What wood did you use?

Dave

i just used regular pine lumber right off the Lowes shelf. I had one or two boards that warped as I let them dry and adjust to the climate of my basement, but for the most part it turned out better than I expected.
