The graffiti and weathering is not going to be covered in the book. I am doing the cars as they will be photographed on one of the book's project layouts. This project layout is a modern break bulk harbor. There will also be steam era projects too.
The book is about marine terminals, wharves, and ships for model railroaders. It should be out in early 2017.

As to this car, I hand painted the graffiti using acrylics. I used a photo from rrpictures as a guide. See my blog here.

Nice work.  I too model the moden era (1980s), but never got into tagging cars.  Perhaps that might change with your excellent work!

I'm a 70's and 80's guy too, all  pre-graffiti is how I like it best.  Have to say however, extremely realistic photo's!

How did you do that?

That will probably be covered in the book!  Wink

Exceptionlly nice work on the boxcar; usually even the best paint and weathering cannot disguise the fact that something is plastic, but this really looks like a steel car.

Be careful where you post pics of this or the railroad police may be paying a visit ..... and they may not believe it is "just a model."

One of the weathered cars for the layout. The graffiti is painted by hand with acrylics using brush and airbrush.
