You could have some sort of carfloat operation with a holding yard. That way you could practice water effects and wharf building, shorelines. There may also be room for a fish packing plant with a fish boat dock and fresh/frozen fish being loaded into a couple of reefers. A boat ramp so there would be a little road action with cars and boat trailers.

You could build it so if you ever get more room for the grand layout, you could plug it right in. Or maybe join a freemo or modular club.

Actually I couldn't sleep last night so I came up with a conceptual idea of what I want to  do I need to  sketch it out now but basically it's  a main line with branches to serve  2 industries. I also want to put a second line in mostly to serve as in runaround for locomotives.

I was thinking of using Atlas code 83 flex track.  Since this is an urban setting I want to skip the road bed and lay the track directly on the ground  using N scale ballast. Minimum radius will be 18 inches ( I might lay that out with sectional track and then convert it to flex).

Anyway that's my thinking.

Well the house remodel is done and I do not have a lot of space for my new layout.  The corner is a 7 by 5  shaped area so I am looking at HO  scale switching layouts with the short part being some type of yard and the long side being industrial in nature I would like the shelves to stick out  no more than 2 feet from the wall.

Most of the track plans I have seen are a bit longer then 5 × 7 does anyone have any thoughts on squeezing a layout into this space?
