I would be extremely leery of turning these models over to a local hobby shop. A better course of action with brass locomotives is to look through the classified section of Model Railroader or other hobby magazine for companies that specialize in custom painting, sound installations, and rebuilding of brass.

Some Hobby Shops do repairs. Some individuals in rr clubs do repairs. You just have to make some calls & check w/your local hobby to see what they have to offer.
I have to take my loco's to a shop 55 miles away, since I'm in a small town that has no hobby shops.

I have two 30 yr. old United steam locomotives; an UP 0-6-0 and 2-8-0. They have never been out to their boxes but need new modern motors, paint and sound. Does anyone know of a reliable place to have this work done?
