Atlas has free track planning software for HO and N scale, It has a slight learning curve and the program is kinda buggy so save often.
but it works great to give you a good layout idea and like I said its free.
goto the atlas site to download it.

Good morning! I'm new to all of this, so please bear with me. Have wanted to build a layout for many years but didn't have the room, time, or money. Well, one of the three (room) is available, so I'll get started as I can. Have a 42' straight run in the unfinished basement of the new house, can probably go 30" wide, with a bigger chunk at either end for a turnaround/modeling.
Not really knowing a whole lot, but do have a preference towards N scale and would like to do a layout of the Denver-Winter Park ski train, with the possibility of expanding later.
Are there any pre-made plans to help me get started on this? I've searched the net and found pictures and some info..... But more specifics on the route, etc would be very helpful.
Thanks!
