My third order from LED Switch arrived just today and included some 3mm yellow/red and pure green/red LEDs. I wondered what "pure green" was and it is a very nice rendition of a signal green color. 15¢ or less each.
All my previous panel indicators were red/green but now I want some of them red/yellow for more restrictive, slower speed turnouts.
He has plastic sleeves for mounting the LEDs in a panel. I bought 50 for $5.

I have noticed that the diffused are easier to see in a panel than the WC or Water Clear variety. Just my experience.
Most of my panels I have used the 5mm LEDs but I'm now using the 3mm just as effectively.
Hope this helps you out, Ed
For things other than LED's I use Mouser.com
I have also ordered from Digikey.

Like Bob, I have made several purchases from LED Switch as well as All Electronics.

They have both been around for quite a few years and are good to deal with.

I have good luck with All Electronics and LED-Switch Co. LED-Switch carries some 3mm Warm White 12 Volt LED's that I use for all my headlights and rear lights and they don't require resistors. Just another option.

Life is what happens while you are making other plans!
Just need generic LEDs? Check out the various versions of white ones available in holiday and patio lighting. When priced right, hard to beat the prices for something that can be found off the shelf locally. Better pricing can be had, but these are so handy and available. They are also typically well matched in terms of color and brightness, which can be an issue with some of the really inexpensive large lot offerings.

Depending on what type and size of LEDs you need, there are several dealers in China that sell bulk packs of LEDs on e-Bay.
Used to get my LEDs etc from a store in Illinois, they appear to be out of business. Could you guys recommend a good replacement?
